Saudi listed companies on mobile: what the numbers say.
We measured the homepage of every company listed on the Saudi Exchange main market with Google PageSpeed Insights, on a mid-range phone and a slow 4G network, three times each. The result: big companies don't mean fast websites.
The score: most in the middle, few at the top
Google's tool scores each page out of 100 for mobile speed. 90 and above is good; under 50 is poor. The median for listed companies is 54.

40% of websites scored under 50, and on 59% the main content took more than 10 seconds to appear in Google's test. The test is harsher than most visitors' experience, but it is the yardstick Google uses to diagnose a page, and it is the same for every company.
Real visitors: the test Google cares about most
Google collects data from real Chrome visitors to each site over the last 28 days and uses it among its ranking signals. 187 of the 230 sites have enough traffic to appear in that data, and only 22 of them passed all three measures (12%).

The biggest problem is how long the content takes to show: only 18% of sites show their main content quickly for most visitors. Response to taps is in better shape, but layout shifts spoil many pages: buttons move under the visitor's finger while the page finishes loading.
Why so slow? Mostly images and unused code
- Images: on half the sites, images could shed 868 KB or more if compressed, sized for the phone and served in a modern format, by Google's own estimate. 45% of sites load more than 1 MB of avoidable image data.
- Unused code: a median of 501 KB of scripts and style files downloads on every visit without being used on the page.
- Total weight: 59% of homepages weigh more than 4 MB; the heaviest is 63.2 MB. Visitors pay for it in data and time.
Sectors: clear differences

Healthcare leads with a median of 62; Banks & financial services is last at 44. Real estate has the heaviest pages (median 9.7 MB) and Insurance the slowest main content (median 22.1 s). The gap between sectors is smaller than the gap within each one: almost every sector has excellent sites and struggling ones.

Beyond speed
- Readable text: 65% of sites have text too close in colour to its background to read comfortably.
- Image descriptions: 35% have images without alt text, which fails screen-reader users and keeps the images out of Google Images.
- Search snippet: 41% of homepages have no meta description, so Google picks a random excerpt to show under the link.
- Visible errors: 62% of pages log errors in the browser while loading.

Five steps that make a difference on any site
- Compress images and serve them at phone size in WebP or AVIF.
- Load the main image first and defer everything below the first screen.
- Remove scripts and plugins the page doesn't need, especially duplicate tracking tags.
- Reserve fixed space for images and banners so the page doesn't jump while loading.
- Write a description for every page and alt text for every image, and check colour contrast.

Method
- Sample: every company on the Saudi Exchange main market (TASI) in the exchange's issuer directory, 253 companies, excluding REITs. 3 had no working website at the time.
- URL: the official website listed on each company's Saudi Exchange profile, after redirects. Where the listed link was broken, the company's current official site was used.
- Tool: Google PageSpeed Insights (Lighthouse 13), mobile mode: a mid-range phone on a simulated slow 4G network.
- Runs: three runs per site on 25 September 2026; the median score is used. The median spread between a site's best and worst run was 7 points.
- Real visitors: Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX) data for the last 28 days, for the page itself or the whole origin where page data was missing. Passing means all three measures (LCP, INP, CLS) are in the good range for 75% of visits.
- Excluded: 20 sites that could not be measured reliably: Google's tool could not open them, received a block or error page instead of the site, or was served different pages between runs. They are left out of the figures; 230 sites were measured.
- Limits: homepages only; lab scores vary a little between runs. The report does not assess content or design.
